August 2016 Reads

I started a new series this month and continued reading some books by some authors I really love. I could use some suggestions because I'm running out of options.

I started James Patterson's Women's Murder Club series. There are 16 books, and I read the first 5 this month. They are about 4 women {a detective, a medical examiner, a lawyer, and a reporter} who start working together to solver murders in San Francisco. I wouldn't say these are amazing, but I keep picking them up. They are quick, easy reads and each story is unique and interesting enough to keep me coming back!

After I Do by Taylor Jenkins Reid - Taylor Jenkins Reid does it again. This book was excellent. What should a couple do when they have fallen out of love after years of marriage? The couple in our story decide to take a year apart to see if they can find their way back to each other. It was an interesting premise, and I was HOOKED. I really like that all her books are unique but such great stories. She's written 1 more that's out, but it isn't at the library {yet}, and I hope she keeps writing for years to come!

The Firebird by Susanna Kearsley - A woman, Nicola, has the ability to 'see' the history of an object by touching it. She goes on a trip through history with the help of a character from The Shadowy Horses {wasn't expecting this and it was SO neat to learn what happened to this character who was a child in The Shadowy Horses} to prove the authenticity of a carved wooden bird supposedly from the Russian Empress Catherine. Another good one by Susanna Kearsley! Probably not my favorite of hers {Nicola got on my nerves sometimes}, but it definitely kept me interested.

Season of Storms by Susanna Kearsley - An actress with the same name as a famous actress from 100 years earlier who mysteriously disappeared at the height of her fame is hired to act in a play written for her by her lover. This one started out super slow, and I had a hard time coming back to it. I actually let it expire once before finishing and read something else in between. But I'm glad I came back to it because it picked up and turned out to be really good!

The Rumor by Elin Hilderbrand - I read my first Elin Hilderbrand book 11 months ago and was underwhelmed. But I keep reading other bloggers love her books, so I thought I'd try another one. The Rumor is about 2 couples who have been friends for 20 years and in 1 summer everything starts to fall apart. And of course, Nantucket notices and rumors fly. I definitely liked this one better than the last one that I read. Now having read 2 of Elin's books, I don't think she'll go on my favorite authors list, but I could see more of hers filling gaps when I don't know what else to read.
