Sleeping Beauties Babies

This week has brought 1 really interesting changes to the Gurley household. The kids have asked several times over the last few months to sleep together. Trent has even tried to take a nap with Drew he was so excited to try. But it has typically ended in disaster as we have put Drew in Trent's bed or them both on a pallet on Drew's floor, and Drew is just not ready for that freedom. {I am SO thankful she hasn't climbed out of her crib yet because by this age, Trent already had!}

But this weekend, Trent had a nightmare and declared that he was sleeping in his sister's room. So on Sunday, we set up his mini-tent in her room, kept her in her bed, and decided to see what would happen. He was asleep a little later than normal and Miss Priss sang until after 10:00, ha. But they have insisted to keep doing it, and we've let them. I just LOVE LOVE LOVE that they want to do this.

It got me thinking of all the pictures Brent and I have taken over the years of the kids...sleeping. We are slightly obsessed. This is only a small percentage of what I have, but I just had to share.

The first time I braved sneaking into Drew's room for a picture!

The phase of wanting to fall asleep on the couch.

We take car sleeping pics too. Obsessed I told ya!

Weird positions? We got those too!

Looks comfy, no?

The 'I got in trouble at school and am taking a nap out of boredom' pose.

Sick nap...

Loves those crossed feet!

Upside down!

Dad's old sleeping bag? Sure!

Hand in hair...her pose.

Protesting her nap worked out well, don't you think?

And it is hard to take a picture of them in her room, but this morning, Brent turned the light on to start the wake-up process and neither of them were having it...so I went in and...of course took a picture!

Ignore the pile of crap in the corner please!

Love the bond my babies have, and I fully expect to be taking pictures of them sleeping until they leave our home.

The Seriously Warped Mind of One Pregnant Lady

To some people...or a lot of people if I'm being honest are going to find this post completely insane.  I recognize that, but I feel like I need to write this out to get it out of my head.  And I'm just being honest here, so don't be too hard on me, k?

When I was pregnant with Trent, I pretty much (most of the time) ate what I wanted.  I exercised sporadically and really let loose.  My doctor's appointments were always picture perfect, so I felt like I did okay.  I honestly don't really know how much I gained because I stopped getting on the scale at the end.  Horrible?  Probably.  But I really didn't want to know.  Let's just say it was probably 40-45 pounds.  Result?  I delivered an 8 1/2 pound baby and lost all but 10 pounds before getting pregnant again.

Eek.  40+ pounds heavier the day we had Trent.

I vowed I would do better with this pregnancy - especially given I am starting out a little heavier.  I don't want to take the picture above and ADD 10 pounds to it.  No thank you.

And I feel like I am doing better.  I am consistently exercising an average of 3 times a week, and doing hard stuff too - body pump and body combat and still running.  I feel great!  During the week I eat healthy.  I do tend to slide on the weekend, but hey, there has to be a little fun in knowing you're going to gain weight anyway.

But then the craziness creeps in.  I weigh myself daily and get so mad at how quickly the numbers are climbing.  I constantly war with myself over not caring as long as I have a healthy baby.  And then I think of the above picture.  Or this one...

Due date w/ Trent...picture above is 3 days later.  I am GINORMOUS.

I don't want to lose all but another 10 pounds because then I'm 20 pounds over my pre-children weight.  But that da*n scale keeps climbing.

I don't want to stress over it either because the end goal is to have a healthy baby.  And I KNOW that.  I swear I do.  I am so lucky and thankful to be pregnant when I have so many friends who have in the past (or currently) struggled to get pregnant.

I have always compared myself to my sister.  My parents NEVER did.  But I always do.  And she always gains less and has smaller babies.  Why does that bother me?  Don't know...but it does.

My mind is a constant battle of beating myself up and then telling myself to relax.

See?  I'm totally warped.  I had really hoped to end at roughly the same spot I ended with Trent, essentially gaining a more normal 30-35 pounds...but that is seeming a harder and harder task to accomplish.  And I just constantly spin numbers in my head of 'Well, if I am at this now and am really, really good, I can hopefully keep my gain to XX by Halloween, and then YY by Thanksgiving.'  Who does that?

I'm hoping that by typing this all out, I can let go of some of it.  And just focus on what I know should be my goal - eat as best as I can (and enjoy a little bit of the weight gain) and keep exercising so I can have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.  Is anyone else this crazy?

Cake Decorating Class - Part 3

I'm a little behind on posting this, but Rhonda and I had our last cake decorating class.  In this class we did a hodge-podge of things with the culmination being decorating a cake!!

Practicing our writing

Making roses...or not.  I never got a good one.  Rhonda had some really good ones, and we both cracked up over hers that fell over.  Ha!

Some other cakes produced in class - pretty!

My cake (on top) and Rhonda's (on bottom) - so proud of us!!

Rhonda will be making her girls' birthday cakes in the next few weeks, and I have already volunteered to make cakes for Miles and Blair.  Rhonda and I both really enjoyed the class. {grin}

Cake Decorating Class - Part Two

Rhonda and I had our second decorating class, and this class was all about cupcakes!  Rhonda baked our cupcakes, and I made icing - such teamwork!

Learning our new skills - shells, rosettes, leaves

Some of our creations - some better than others.  Right, Rhonda??

The efforts of our work!

This week we're going to decorate another cake - but one of our choosing.  Should be interesting...

Cake Decorating Class - Part 1

After Trent's rockin' birthday party and my entry into the world of cake decorating, Rhonda and I signed up for a 3-part cake decorating class.  Last night was 'Part 1', and we had SO much fun!  When we got settled in the class, I looked up at our instructory, and she was the lady who made our wedding cakes - small world, right?  I knew we were in good hands because our wedding cakes were awesome!

See?  Awesome, right?
{I don't have my wedding CD otherwise I could post a better one of my cake.  Boo.}

I really didn't know what to expect in our first class, but we got busy right away learning how to make icing and then actually decorating a cake!

Busy, busy!

The finished cakes.  I am still in shock that we made these!
{Mine is just a little crooked, huh?  HA!}

A close-up of Rhonda's.

I'm super excited about our next class, although I am slightly annoyed that we have about 20 things to bring to class next week.  BUT we're learning how to decorate cupcakes, so I'm sure it'll be worth it!  Tune in next week for 'Part 2'!

I Should Be Embarrassed...But I'm Not...Mostly

Did you know that in North America, romance novels are the most popular genre in modern literature (according to Wikipedia)?  I should probably be embarrassed to admit I read them, but I'm not!  I'm only embarrassed by the silly covers! {grin}
There's one book in particular, Shanna by Kathleen Woodiwiss, that I read every year or so.  I started it again this weekend.  It's been about a year and a half since I last read it...maybe longer because I'm not sure if Trent was here yet.  Do you ever re-read a book?  When I start reading this book, I start remembering parts and get so excited to get to those parts of the story.  Brent calls me his 'nerd' all the time - this weekend I took Shanna with us so I could read in the car on our way places.  I fully embrace my nerdiness, but I promise if you want a good book to read, this is it.  Now off to read before bedtime...

My New Obsession: Glee

I think I'm pretty easy to please when it comes to entertainment.  I'm not a snob about movies or music or books, and I like a wide variety of styles.  I love most things cheesy and mainly like stuff that just makes me smile.  Glee totally meets that criteria and more.  It's really a no-brainer if you know me.
  • High school drama (without being TOO much drama) - CHECK
  • Cute boys played by actors that are my age (no cougar here...unlike my friend Rhonda and her sick love for Taylor Lautner...grin) - CHECK
  • Musical with singing and dancing in every episode - CHECK
So if any of this critera sounds like you, Glee will just make you smile.  I have spent the last 2 weeks catching all 32 episodes aired to-date and have laughed out loud until I was crying.  Check it out!

Baby Fever? I'll Pass...But Thanks For Asking!

My sister is pregnant.  Katie (a bloggy friend whose little girl is 1 day older than Trent) is pregnant.  Rhonda just had Brinley.  But I'm DEAD SERIOUS - no baby fever for this Mama.  I love Trent to pieces but am not ready for him to be a big brother.  I will squeeze Brinley lots (as evidenced below), then come spring, I will squeeze my new niece or nephew lots and enjoy all the new life around me and not in me.  I mean it. {grin}

Not So Guilty Pleasure

Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team 5 started Friday.  Totally watched it for the 5th straight season.  This might be my favorite show.  Not the least bit ashamed about it either. {grin}

And They Called It Puppy Love

Trent and I spent Friday night at his godparents' house.  I wonder how long before we have to buy him a dog?

Total 'Eclipse' of the Heart

My sis and I had the babes to ourselves yesterday and decided we deserved a little treat today. So to 'Eclipse' we went. The movie was super fun (best one yet), my date was great (love ya sis), the food was yummy (if you don't have an Alamo Drafthouse in your town, I'm sorry), and the sangria?? Well, it might have been the best part. {grin} Is The Twilight Saga cheesy? Why yes it is! Do I love every minute of it? Why yes I do! Bring on 'Breaking Dawn'...in 18 months. ;)

Do They Have Rehab For This?

It's a good thing we plan to get wood floors before too much longer with the number of times Trent has peed on the floor...because I leave him naked just a little too long...{grin}.

Brent took this picture and zoomed in because he refused to show his little boy parts (not that I blame him). He's just too funny about that. How will I embarrass Trent as a teenager though?!?!

Seriously Mom

Put some clothes on that kid!

Nope. Sorry. Not gonna happen.
