Camping with 7-Year-Olds

Paige has had a great 2nd year in Girl Scouts. She had a campout this past weekend that I got to join! A girl in her troop lives on several acres and volunteered to host us, and we had so much fun. Paige had a birthday party in the morning, so we were a little late to the campout, but she jumped right into the activities.

How cool is the headband she made finger knitting?

It wouldn't be a campout without smores!

All the girls in nature - I love that NOT ONCE did anyone ask for a device.

How awesome is this bluebonnet shot I got?!

Sleeping Saturday night was a disaster. It was super windy and one little girl had a ROUGH night {before going home at 2:45 AM}. I also didn't enjoy my cot and sleeping bag - I was tired and sore Sunday morning. But the girls were all in great moods and ready for more adventures.

It's a hard job snuggling the troop leader's baby...but somebody has to do it.

Paige at Daphne at McDonald's - fancy lunch!
[Meanwhile Brent's parents took Brent and Drew to my favorite restaurant!]

A hike followed by a lesson on pollinators!

I'm going to need to learn to do a better job of tent camping because I think there's going to be a lot more of it in my Girl Scout future, but other than some rough sleep {or NOT sleep}, we had a great adventure!

Total Eclipse of the Heart

We were in the path of totality for Monday's solar eclipse and had a really cool experience getting to see it! The kids went to school where they got to watch the eclipse too and did some fun activities for it. Brent worked from home, so we watched it together from our driveway.

It's starting!

We got glasses from Girl Scouts for the girls BUT since they were getting to watch at school, Brent and I got to use theirs, yay!

Getting ready!

iPhone photo of totality - it was way neater in person I swear ha

Brent laughed at me trying to put a pair of glasses on my iPhone camera.
I was trying to get a better picture, sue me!

When it got dark, it was really eerie. It wasn't like sunset - it just all of the sudden got dark. More like when a big thunderstorm is coming in.

Bad quality, but my favorite couple!

There was a really cool reflection on the driveway - I'm guessing the light reflecting off the back of my car?

The school posted this picture on Facebook -
what a cool view of students watching the eclipse!

And a neighbor took these pictures! How cool, right??

This was definitely a really neat experience, and I'm glad we got to witness it.

Movie Review: Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

I mentioned in Drew's birthday party post that we went to see the new Ghostbusters movie. I had such a great time taking six 11-13 year old girls!

Plot: When the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second ice age.

Review: Gosh, this was fun! We all enjoyed it so much. I did not see the Ghostbusters before this that had some of the same characters {Spengler's daughter and grandchildren}, but you didn't really need to see that one to get what was going on, as long as you've seen the original Ghostbusters. This was funny and entertaining. I especially enjoyed several callbacks to the original movie, so if you're a fan of that, I think you'll get a kick out of it too! Solid entertainment!

Drew's {Super Late} 11th Birthday Party!

Well, 3 months after Drew's birthday, we finally celebrated her! For a while, we were waiting for my niece, Blair, to be able to join us and life just kind of got away from us. But I'm so glad we were able to get something on the calendar. Drew had 5 friends come over, and our main adventure was going to see the new Ghostbusters movie {review to come!}. Drew is SUPER into Taylor Swift right now so the party was loosely TS themed.

Snacks with Taylor Swift song titles ha {this was 100% Drew's idea!}

Playing What Do You Meme {but a G-rated version}

Choosing their snacks!

I meant to get a picture of the girls with the movie poster, but I forgot. We were too excited to get back for cupcakes!

Happy {super late} birthday to our favorite 11 year old!!

Living her best party life

Drew really wanted to make smores too,
and they were EXTRA gooey but so delicious!

The girls finished the party with dodgeball and hunter. So fun!

Blair spent the night, so we had to take her home the next day. My sister's family just moved last week, so it was our first chance to see the new digs.

And check out the neighborhood pool!
IT WAS SO COLD.

Per usual, I spent the whole time holding this little guy.
Almost giving the camera a smile here!
He is such a squishable little love bug!!

And everybody loves him!!!

So while it took a long time for us to get this together, I think our girl had an amazing weekelnd!

Easter 2024 Recap!

We had a great Easter weekend! We spent the day before Easter at my parents' house with my extended family. We had SO MANY people over there, it was a great turnout!

My uncle with 3 of his grandkids!

Sawyer had a rough day, and he really needed his Aunt Yena to snuggle him. I babysat him for 7 hours on Thursday, and he didn't cry even one time, but he got himself SO worked up on Saturday!

Taking my aunt duties VERY seriously, ha

The Swope girl grands ready for the egg hunt!

9 of 12 first cousins and spouses

Adding in the aunts and uncles

The next generation! These kids range from 34-in utero, ha!

Sunday morning we went to church with Janet. Paige went early with Nana to do an egg hunt! I came in time for service with the other kiddos.

Ready to hunt AGAIN!

We had a delicious Easter lunch with my in-laws and Brent's brother and his family. I did NOT want to come back to reality on Monday!
