Oscar 2021 Fashion

I didn't watch the Oscars on Sunday night because I only watched 1 new movie in 2020 {Wonder Woman 84} and didn't even know what was nominated. Allison, we have got to get our acts together and get back on track in 2021! BUT I did check out Oscar fashion and have some thoughts!

First, I feel like the ladies overall looked lovely! And the men! There were so many exciting looks for the guys - lots of fun colors and different takes on the traditional tuxedo, it was a lot of fun looking at the guys!

Let's start with some ladies!

Andra Day

This is just okay for me. It fits her great, but for the Oscars I think you EITHER do the side cut-out or the super high slit. It was just a little much for me.

Angela Bassett

She looks amazing, and I loved that the poofy sleeves actually tied in a bow on the back. The simple jewelry made the sleeves/bow really standout.

H.E.R.

I love the concept of what this should be, but it's too much fabric.

I love the sparkly fabric, it's so beautiful, I just wish there was less!

Halle Berry

I'm sorry but I don't love this. I can't really tell you why either, it's just ok.

I really don't like her hair either. Eek.

Laura Dern

I don't have high expectations for her, and this was fine.

Margot Robbie

I just have 1 word to say: Damn!

Olivia Coleman

She usually looks pretty bad, so I'm going to call this one a win!

I love her shoes so much.

Reese Witherspoon

This looks really similar to other dresses we've seen in years past.

I think she looks great but nothing new.

Viola Davis

I've gone back and forth on this look. It isn't my favorite look, but it looks great on her. I love her hair and jewelry and va-va-va-voom! I also look that it is structured on top {but so flirty with the cut-outs} and then so flowy on bottom.

For the first time, let's get excited for some fun fashion for the men!

Brad Pitt

He can make everything look great. He's wearing a very basic look, 

but he looks anything but basic. {grin}

Colman Domingo

Holy smokes this is amazing. Now is this what I would have wanted Brent to wear to our wedding? Of course not. But this is just posh and glamorous and so fun.

Tons of Swarovski crystals, a perfect fit and great shoes. Loved it!

Daniel Kaluuya

I like this too. You can tell the suit is so nice, and I like the diamond necklace to dress it up. A smile wouldn't have hurt though!

Lil Rel Howery

I almost love this. The jacket is gorgeous, I love how the shirt/tie/lapels/pants match. My only complaint is I wish the pants weren't so wide at the bottom and I don't love that the shoes also match. But overall so nice.

Questlove

I mean seriously, you have to give props to someone who decides they want to wear gold crocs to the Oscars. Ha!

Best Dressed

She looks like a movie STAR. And she has 2 kids - one of whom she had in September. Y'all know how I feel about inner boob and hers is perfect AND SHE HAS TWO CHILDREN. What kind of magic is that???

Regina King

I love this dress - the sleeves that look like butterfly wings, the color, the fit, the beading, the simple jewelry, the scalloped edges. She looks gorgeous!

Zendaya

I went back and forth on this one and finally decided I loved it.

This much skin wouldn't look great on everyone {take note, JLo}, but on her petite frame and the color - it's beautiful. I also love the statement necklace.

Leslie Odom, Jr.

This man can do no wrong in my book. He looks fabulous and this is a show-stopper.

Riz Ahmed

I have no words, please just wipe up my drool.

Worst Dressed

Chloe Zhao

While I am THRILLED by her Oscar win, I cannot get onboard with this outfit.

Glenn Close

This is just too heavy. Then add the pants and gloves. Too much.

Vanessa Kirby

I didn't recognize Princess Margaret at first - this is SO severe.

She is too skinny, the color of the dress fades into her skin, and then throw in that super dark lip - I just don't think any of this works.

Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher

Isla looks great, but I can't with Sacha. Nope, nope, nope.

Lankeith Stanfield

This is a super fun outfit and fits great - it just doesn't seem like an Oscars outfit.

Stitch Fix #3

It has been literally YEARS since I've done a Stitch Fix order, but with my successes at finally losing some weight, I decided to place an order. Plus, my neighbor/friend, Susie, has been working there for a few years and was quitting so I wanted to see what she would pick for me, ha. Here's what Susie sent me in my Fix!

The minute I pulled this shirt out I knew it could be a keeper, 

and it fit PERFECTLY.

I love flowy tops and the colors and style were awesome.

These jeans were also really great! They are so soft and fit just right.

3. Bobeau - Bartie Hacci Ribbed Sleeve Knit Top - Size S - Kept

This shirt is SO soft and perfect for so many options.

Hanging out with friends, date night - you can wear it a lot of ways.

4. Lush - Warren Split Neck Blouse - Size S - Kept

This top is perfect for work and so many other things.

Church, date night, anything! The color and fit were also awesome.

5. Market & Spruce - Bambi Belted Cargo Jacket - Size S - Kept

The best part about your neighbor doing your Fix - 

we had just talked about my need for more jackets!

PLUS she knows my favorite color is pink. This was a huge hit!

Bottom line: This was a great fix! It definitely helped that one of my best friends picked these pieces for me because she knows my wardrobe well and knows my likes/dislikes. I love that we had been talking about me needing more outerwear, and boom, I get a jacket, ha. She picked items that were perfect for me, and now I'm super sad she doesn't work for Stitch Fix anymore!

Drew's First Stitch Fix

 I hadn't had a fix from Stitch Fix in YEARS {fix #1 here and fix #2 here}, but one of my closest friends, Susie, has worked for the company for a couple of years, and I decided to have her send me a fix, and then I got a wild hair and had her do one for Drew too {she does women and kids}. I will share my fix soon {spoiler alert: it was great!}, but I wanted to share Drew's now!

What's different about a kid's fix vs. an adult is kids get 10 items instead of 5. The same discount applies if you buy all the items - you get 25% off. I did find that the kid prices were a little more reasonable than the adult pricing - I find the adult clothing to be a little pricier than I normally like to pay.

Drew told Susie she wanted sequins, and Susie knows how picky Drew can be, so she was super stressed about finding pieces for her. When we got her fix, Drew wanted to do a fashion show with her own posing for everything, but her hair is a mess, so I think she looks like a very tousled, very cute model haha.

First up, a cute unicorn dress. How cute is this? It's a keeper!

Then she tried on this adorable cat sequin sweater that was so soft and these cute flower leggings. I was really impressed with all of the quality.

Her favorite outfit BY FAR was this sequin star shirt and star jeggings. She has worn this combo 3 times {including twice to school} in the couple of weeks we've had the clothes!

Drew loves layers so this cardigan was perfect. It's cute, cozy, very soft, and a great choice for Texas winters. 

I love this top, and it matches with these tie-dye shorts AND the flower leggings really well.

Drew loved the back!

There was 1 dress that was the same size as everything else, but it was TINY. Luckily, I have another tiny person in my house, and Paige was so excited to get an outfit too!

The only thing Drew didn't like was a pair of flower slip-on sneakers {like Ked's} - I thought they were ADORABLE. We kept them anyway because it was cheaper to get the discount and keep the shoes, plus I think Paige will happily wear them in a few years!

And with that, we had Drew's first fix from Stitch Fix!! It was definitely a winner!

Tie-Dye Fun

This time at home has me doing all kinds of crazy things. It's nice to have more time as a family...but kids get bored! So here and there we've been doing little 'extra' activities - you guys saw the bounce house we got, we have busted out a slip 'n slide we've had for years and never used, we've baked...all sorts of things. 

Well, a couple of weeks ago, I bought a tie-dye kit and white shirts for the whole family, and we tie-dyed our own shirts! The kit I bought had super easy instructions to follow {I mean it's really not hard in the first place} for what 'style' of tie-dye you want. We ended up mostly just bunching the shirts up and spraying away. It was super easy - even Paige could do it - and we had a lot of fun!

See? Just scrunch up your shirt and spray! Super easy.

We attempted the spiral design for Drew.

In hindsight we didn't use enough dye, so we just ended up scrunching hers too.

 

I still plan to get a picture of us all in our shirts, but it hasn't happened yet.

But how cute is Trent in his?!?!

Bathing Suit Bonanza

I haven't bought a new bathing suit in 4 summers. I kept saying I'd spend money on new suits when I lost weight...and not to be a broken record...but that kept not happening. Ha! This summer, however, it IS happening plus the bathing suit I've had for so long has lost its elasticity and really NEEDS to be replaced.

Well, Target was having a BOGO sale, plus I saw some other suits I liked online, and somehow I ended up buying 6 bathing suits last weekend. I do not intend to keep all 6 and am honestly hoping to keep 2 or 3. If I could try bathing suits on in person, I'm sure I would try on 20 or more before I found any I wanted to keep, but that's not the world we live in today. 

I have some criteria that must be met for a suit to even be considered:
1) Support - I have a lot on top and do not want it drooping excessively!
2) Coverage - the lower portion of my stomach is basically a blob of saggy skin and stretch marks - there will be no teeny bikinis.
3) Ruching - I also have a nice little 'I've had 3 kids' pudge - as I've lost weight it's of course gotten smaller, but it's still there and quite honestly might never go away.

And of course I want it to be cute and flattering ha!

So here are the suits I've ordered - I should get some of them Friday and the rest next week.

First up, my 4 Target BOGO suits!

This one of course comes with a strap - 

no way could I let my girls be without a strap.

This one ties behind the neck so I should be able to CINCH it tight for support.

If not, this will most definitely go back - we'll see how this plunge looks...

I'm not sure how the horizontal stripes will look,

but I loved the macrame straps and ruching.

My concern with this one is not enough support up top.

This suit is from Athleta...and guys I'm trying out a 2-piece!

This is bra-sized so I'm hoping the support will be there, 

but how cute is this???

And this covers up my troublesome lower abdomen, 

and the tie is hopefully a distraction ha.

My belly button is pretty stretched out too,

but I decided to go for it and see how this looks!

Lastly, I got this suit from Summersalt - I've seen it advertised a ton of places.

It has compression, diagonal seaming, great backside coverage,

and 85% of the reviews online give it 5 stars!

And I thought the back was super cute too!
