Stop Laughing

Trent was really tired.  I was trying to get him to eat dinner...unsuccessfully.

He asked to watch a video, I said no.  His little face crumpled.  I started laughing.  He couldn't decide whether that was funny or not.

To translate:
Don't laugh at me. x2 {with a giggle in between}

Stop it.

I said stop.

Stop laugh.

Don't laugh at me. x2

Lots of laughing.

I would say I'm a terrible mother, but I just can't stop laughing.

Cake Decorating Class - Part 3

I'm a little behind on posting this, but Rhonda and I had our last cake decorating class.  In this class we did a hodge-podge of things with the culmination being decorating a cake!!

Practicing our writing

Making roses...or not.  I never got a good one.  Rhonda had some really good ones, and we both cracked up over hers that fell over.  Ha!

Some other cakes produced in class - pretty!

My cake (on top) and Rhonda's (on bottom) - so proud of us!!

Rhonda will be making her girls' birthday cakes in the next few weeks, and I have already volunteered to make cakes for Miles and Blair.  Rhonda and I both really enjoyed the class. {grin}

Review: Rain A Tribute to the Beatles

It's been a few years since I got tickets to Broadway Across America.  My mother-in-law and I and a few friends got tickets this year.  Last night was our first show, Rain A Tribute to the Beatles.

It was WONDERFUL!  I think last night was the last show in this tour in Austin, but if you like The Beatles, you really should make an effort to see the show.  It wasn't a play, it was a concert with the cast members in character as The Beatles the entire time.  They also showed footage from the 60s and Beatles concerts.  I really had a great time and think this season is going to be awesome!!

Suck Up

This little girl definitely knows who will be her BFF when she grows up.  I have already promised to take her to pierce her ears and to keep all her secrets.  Just don't tell her I also promised her momma I'd tell her anything she needed to know.  {grin}

Movie Review: Sarah's Key

Allison and I went and saw 'Sarah's Key' on Sunday.  It might be our last movie before Baby Girl Price arrives...so exciting!

Synopsis: In modern-day Paris, a journalist (Kristen Scott Thomas) finds her life becoming entwined with a young girl whose family was torn apart during the notorious Vel' d'Hiv Roundup in 1942.

Review: Allison and I both thought the movie was REALLY good.  I cried a little but not nearly as much as I thought I would.  The part I was dreading (if you know the story, you know what I'm talking about) was bad but not as sad as the book so that was a relief.  There were a few inconsistencies from the book but none that bothered me too much.  Allison and i both interpreted the ending of the book differently from the movie and liked our own book ending better. {grin}  Overall, I thought it was a very good movie.  I (of course) liked the book better!

Emmys 2011 Fashion Rewind Gurley Gurl Style

I'm definitely in need of a light-hearted post after the ball of stress that has been our household lately.  So fasten your seatbelt and get ready...this is a long one! {grin}

I really feel like I saw very few dresses that I LOVED this year.  A lot that were just okay.  But only a few that I truly didn't like.

Eh Part 1
Zooey Deschanel - looks like a Barbie birthday cake or something
Katie Holmes - simple dress that is okay but the hair is awful
Taraji P. Henson - her dress did NOT fit, she had taco overhang at the top. Ugh.
 Kristen Wiig - that color looks BAD
Kathy Griffin - is it just me or does she always look like she's got on a bad prom dress?

Eh Part 2
Julianne Marguiles - I hated this look.  Messy hair and a body brace?
Rashida Jones - she looks pretty but not one of my favorites.
Heather Morris - one of many Glee stars who got it wrong!
Jayma Mays - another Glee mishap - the color washes her out, the layers show a lack of curves.
Elizabeth Moss - just so-so

Eh Part 3
Paula Abdul - on anybody else I'd say terrible, but it's such an improvement
Padma Lakshmi - for as beautiful as she is, I'm not impressed
Diana Agron - Glee girls - what is wrong with y'all?  This looks AWFUL!
Christina Hendricks - her body is insane but she dresses wrong so often!
Kaley Cuoco - hot mess
Amber Riley - I honestly dont' know what I think of this dress.  Maybe it just doesn't fit her right?

Finally some dresses I like!
Naya Rivera - the detailing was really beautiful
Minka Kelly - very unique, at first I wasn't crazy about it but it's grown on me.  Not my favorite but still very pretty.
Melissa McCarthy - she has a tough body to dress, but I thought she pulled it off.
Martha Plimpton - thought this dress fit her like a glove and was beautiful
Julie Bowen - she needs to eat but the dress is very gorgeous
Jane Lynch - she looks amazing!

And just because I think this is funny -
how much does Claire Daines look like a repeat of last year??
This year is on the left, in case you couldn't tell!

Jennifer Carpenter, Julia Stiles, Maria Bello and Ellie Kemper
I think these all look lovely, like really, really pretty!

Lots of red!
I LOVED Sofia Vergara and Nina Dobrev!
Lea Michele would have looked better with her hair up.
Kerry Washington looks hot!
Kate Winslet looks great, but the dress is a little simple.

Couples Gone Wrong

The Good, the Okay and the Ugly
Gwenyth = the Ugly - any dress that makes her have a muffin top is WRONG
Kelly = the Good, HOT, HOT, HOT
Evan Rachel = the Okay

Best Dressed!
Cobie Smuthers -
I loved the color, I loved how it fit, I thought she looked AMAZING!

Worst Dressed
Paz de la Huerta
The hair, the skin color, the dress - I might have nightmares!

So there you have it!  The first award show.
What did you think??

Your Emmy Fashion Post Will Be Delayed, Why I'm a Terrible Mother, and PLEASE Bring Me Some Wine ASAP!

So how did you spend your Sunday night?  Watching the Emmys?  Rocking out at ACL?  Date night?  Sounds super fun.  Brent and I put our son to bed at 8:00.  I turned on E!'s Emmy red carpet coverage and started looking up dresses online.  At 10:00, I took the door knob off our bedroom door and switched it with my son's, so I could lock him in his bedroom.  Bedtime in the big boy bed is not going well to say the least.  Threats, spankings, no videos in the morning, ignoring him, none of it is working.  So I spent the remainder of Sunday night scarfing pizza, guzzling wine {diet? what diet?}, and questioning my ability to properly raise my child.  He banged his head on the door, he screamed, he cried for me.  Parenting is not for sissies.  Promise me it gets better?  And the best part of the experience?  When I had Brent locked in our bedroom and me locked in Trent's bedroom while Trent stood in the hallway holding part of one of the doorknobs.  Honey, please don't leave me, okay?  As a consolation prize, I did a guest post for one of my oldest friends, Kelly, who is enjoying a fabulous 10 day trip in London with her mom!  So jealous!  I did a 'best and worst' from last year's award season.  So go check it out!

This is Trent's World, and We're Just Living in It

It is pretty hysterical living with a 2 year old.  He is constantly saying and doing stuff that Brent and I just get so tickled over.  I wanted to document a few of my favorites - 1) to remember and 2) to share how dang cute he is!

We have had some trouble at school with Trent being aggressive to the teachers and classmates.  He also has been getting out of his bed A LOT since he's now in a big boy bed.  So what is sometimes working for us is not letting him watch videos.  Well, one morning after a little chat about how he wasn't getting to watch videos because he wasn't being nice, he responded to me, "I'll be nice...  Now can I watch a video?" without skipping a beat!

My in-laws love music from the '60s.  He is really into Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.  He will spontaneously break into song (including at church) to sing "Big Girls Don't Cry" and "Sherry Baby".

We tell stories to Trent at naptime and bedtime.  We have now made up a story about him driving a street paver (we call it the Big Roller).  Now he commands me to "Tell the Big Roller story".

Like a typical day, Trent was naked running around the house.
Trent: "I'm cold."
Mama: "Let's put on clothes."
Trent: "I'll just wrap up in baby."

And he did!
{Bad iPhone quality and a moving target...but had to post him wrapped up!}

Trent doesn't really like going to school.  On a Thursday, I was getting ready for work and Trent asked, "Where you going, Mama?"  And I responded, "Mama has to go to work today."  Trent then asked, "Where I going, Mama?"  And I responded, "Nowhere.  Nana is coming over today."  He then shouted, "NO SCHOOL!!!!"  I thought I'd have a few years before he got this excited about not going to school. :/

When shopping, he picks up or touches everything in a store and says, "This is cute."
Brent's parents were out of town for a week, so Trent went a LONG time without seeing his Nana.  When I told him he was going to see Nana, he responded, "I love Nana...mower."

I read at church one Sunday.  When I sat back down, Trent told me, "You did a good job reading that story, Mama."

He says some stuff backwards.  "Cakecup" = cupcake.  "Catbob" = bobcat.  Not all the time though which is what I find funny about it.

Man, I love that kid!!

Mama Drama **UPDATED**

UPDATE: Mom's doctor said the procedure was a success!  He 'zapped' several spots he had zapped last time and found some new spots to zap when he had her heart in arrhythmia.  Bottom line - He was able to stop the arrhythmia!!  She's resting comfortably at the hospital and can come home tomorrow.  Thanks again for the prayers!!

Remember when I had to take my mom to the emergency room?  Well, today is her ablation to fix her heart yet again.  We're praying that this time the procedure takes and for peace and strength for her and my dad.  Can I ask y'all again for prayers?  I'll update today's post after the procedure.  She'll have to spend the night tonight at the heart hospital but should be home tomorrow!  Thanks in advance for the prayers, they are truly appreciated!

Cake Decorating Class - Part Two

Rhonda and I had our second decorating class, and this class was all about cupcakes!  Rhonda baked our cupcakes, and I made icing - such teamwork!

Learning our new skills - shells, rosettes, leaves

Some of our creations - some better than others.  Right, Rhonda??

The efforts of our work!

This week we're going to decorate another cake - but one of our choosing.  Should be interesting...

For the Third First Time

I love, love, love raising babies with my sister and sharing our toys!

And just because this boy can't let Blair do ANYTHING with his toys without him getting some time in first...  I present you with this utter ridiculousness. {grin}  Hopefully he's getting all his jealousy out with Blair so it's gone when he gets a sibling.  Wishful thinking?

Book Review: Sarah's Key

I majorly went on a reading spree last week.  After reading 'Divergent' practically overnight, I then began reading 'Sarah's Key' and also finished it very quickly.

Synopsis: De Rosnay's U.S. debut fictionalizes the 1942 Paris roundups and deportations, in which thousands of Jewish families were arrested, held at the Vélodrome d'Hiver outside the city, then transported to Auschwitz. Forty-five-year-old Julia Jarmond, American by birth, moved to Paris when she was 20 and is married to the arrogant, unfaithful Bertrand Tézac, with whom she has an 11-year-old daughter. Julia writes for an American magazine and her editor assigns her to cover the 60th anniversary of the Vél' d'Hiv' roundups. Julia soon learns that the apartment she and Bertrand plan to move into was acquired by Bertrand's family when its Jewish occupants were dispossessed and deported 60 years before. She resolves to find out what happened to the former occupants: Wladyslaw and Rywka Starzynski, parents of 10-year-old Sarah and four-year-old Michel. The more Julia discovers—especially about Sarah, the only member of the Starzynski family to survive—the more she uncovers about Bertrand's family, about France and, finally, herself. {via}

Review: This book was terribly sad.  If you don't like crying, don't read this book.  Of course, who LIKES crying?  With that said, it was also truly a beautiful and moving book.  I have very little knowledge about WWII and definitely no knowledge of this piece of French history.  It definitely made me think about what life was like back then.  Overall: very captivating!  Allison and I plan to see the movie next weekend, so I'll be sure and recap that as well!

Saying Their Prayers

We're saying our prayers tonight for all the families who lost their homes in the fires in central Texas and for all the firefighters using this Labor Day to help.

We're giving thanks that we are safe.

Don't ask me why Trent is 'praying' with his hands covering his ears. {grin}

Cake Decorating Class - Part 1

After Trent's rockin' birthday party and my entry into the world of cake decorating, Rhonda and I signed up for a 3-part cake decorating class.  Last night was 'Part 1', and we had SO much fun!  When we got settled in the class, I looked up at our instructory, and she was the lady who made our wedding cakes - small world, right?  I knew we were in good hands because our wedding cakes were awesome!

See?  Awesome, right?
{I don't have my wedding CD otherwise I could post a better one of my cake.  Boo.}

I really didn't know what to expect in our first class, but we got busy right away learning how to make icing and then actually decorating a cake!

Busy, busy!

The finished cakes.  I am still in shock that we made these!
{Mine is just a little crooked, huh?  HA!}

A close-up of Rhonda's.

I'm super excited about our next class, although I am slightly annoyed that we have about 20 things to bring to class next week.  BUT we're learning how to decorate cupcakes, so I'm sure it'll be worth it!  Tune in next week for 'Part 2'!

Book Review: Divergent

Okay peeps!  Do I have a book for you!  When blog surfing a few weeks ago (don't even remember the blog) I came across a book recommendation.  I checked it out from our library and didn't open it until last night.  I finished it this morning.  Yeah, folks, THAT good.  Oh, and the icing on the cake?  It's going to be a trilogy!!

Synopsis: In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves… or it might destroy her.

Review: Okay obviously I loved the book!  In theory it's similar to 'The Hunger Games' - post-apocalyptic U.S., teenage girl, civil war on the horizon, mix in a love story...  The plot itself was very different and very good.  It IS written for the YA crowd, but it's no secret that I love 'Twilight', 'Harry Potter' and 'The Hunger Games' (all multi-book series too!!), so it's perfect for me.  I really recommend it for anyone who likes any of the books I mentioned.  The rights have already been sold to Summit too!  Can't wait! {grin}
