Last Day of School 2017

The kids got out of school May 25 this year. It has been so nice having about 10 days with them before I go back to work. This school year felt really fast at times and really slow at others {trying to get back into the groove after the Winter Break and having Paige was just a little bit tough, ha}, but I seriously can't believe my firstborn is going into 3rd grade and Drew will be in pre-K.

I know I've said it before and will probably talk about it again, but I am so excited that we're staying at our school next year and that Paige will be there too. Superficially one drop-off/pick-up for me is AMAZING, but seriously the baby program is really something special {well you guys know I think Montessori is something special all-around}, and I can't wait to watch Paige grow there. But before that happens, I'm looking forward to enjoying our summer - no alarm clocks, lots of time together, a few small vacations...bring it!

May 2017 Book Review

Man somehow last week got away from me! Having the big 2 home from school and it being my last full week of leave, we just soaked it up. Wednesday is looming large, eek! But...on to happier things!

Suddenly You by Lisa Kleypas - I love Lisa Kleypas and have enjoyed all her books - probably close to 50 by now. This was a very typical historical romance, and I ate it up! 

Talking as Fast as I Can by Lauren Graham - Man, when Emily said she didn't like this book, I thought she had to be crazy. Womp, womp...I didn't like this one! The description made it sound like this was going to largely revolve around Lauren's experiences in Hollywood, but it really was Hollywood stories sprinkled between random advice. I found myself annoyed quite often, and there was only 1 chapter that was some notes from her journal while filming the Gilmore Girls revival and that chapter was great. So yeah, if you want to read this...just skip to the last chapter!

Devil in Spring by Lisa Kleypas - So this is the continuation of a series I started last summer and also had characters from a previous series by LK {The Wallflowers}, and it was good. Not as strong as some of her other books, but she's like Nora Roberts part 2 for me, ha.

River's End by Nora Roberts - Olivia is the young daughter of Hollywood stars until one night when her mother is murdered, and it appears her father did it. Years later the son of the detective who investigated the murder wants to write a true crime book about what happened, and unraveling the truth opens up the past Olivia tried to bury. I actually guessed who the bad guy was within the first few pages, so while I enjoyed the book it was a bit predictable.

In a Dark, Dark Wood by Ruth Ware - Nora Shaw is a writer who is invited to her former best friend's bachelorette party. They haven't spoken in 10 years after something tragic in Nora's past drove her to leave school. Spooky things start happening almost immediately, and I don't want to say anymore. This was very good - suspenseful and it played out just slowly enough to drive me crazy but keep me hanging on. I never guessed Nora's past or what happened at the party. I can't wait to read more by Ruth Ware!
