Some fun things being said in our house lately by our 2 smallest members. Drew is always wanting to change something after she's done it. I wouldn't let her have water because she had poured it on herself in the car. 'But I don't want to pour my water.' Trent: 'Well, you can't change the past.' Love his big brother wisdom! Or she will say 'I want to listen' after getting disciplined for not listening. Trent is big into figuring out what he can say instead of bad words. He thinks 'damn' and 'hell' are the only bad words. I hope to keep it that way for a long time! But he'll say 'Oh poof' instead of 'Oh poop' which I love and never want him to change. He also says 'What the' but thinks it is just short for 'What the heck'. So sweet, that one!
BFFs!!
Drew says a lot of words wrong, and I love it! Pasketti = spaghetti Captain Camerica = Captain America Gymnashtics = gymnastics Oo-topi = Zootopia Yogret = Yogurt I swear there are always more really great conversations/comments I mean to write down and forget before I can get them in my phone or on the computer, but I love looking back at the crazy things these 2 come up with!
I'm linking up today with Show & Tell Tuesday to share the soundtrack to my life. Growing up, my parents played music in the house a lot. It was usually oldies or country. My parents were teenagers in the 60s and that music just can't be topped. I am a huge fan of The Temptations, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Three Dog Night...the list goes on and on. Then throw in some 80s George Straight, and I'm a happy camper! But the songs that will always bring my childhood back to me are:
Leaving on a Jet Plane by Peter, Paul, & Mary
Moonshadow by Cat Stevens
The Spirit of Aggieland
My parents chose these songs as our lullabies, and Patty and I sing them to our kids. I hope for generations to come these are the lullabies of my babies and their babies! Brent is the first and only significant relationship I have had. We had a lot of songs that were special to us back in the day. But one always brings a smile to my face and takes me back to good old PHS in 1997.
All My Life by K.C. and JoJo
Laugh if you want, but man this song makes my heart so happy!
I was never really a boy-bander. I couldn't stand NKOTB, Backstreet Boys, or *NSYNC. My roommate in college and I had a deal that she could listen to them when I wasn't in the room, and the same applied for a few of my 'twangier' country albums {Blackhawk, I'm looking at you}. BUT... my roommate and I did have one shared jam.
I Want it That Way by The Backstreet Boys
There were many lipsync parties to this song!
And I will confess to having a love of the 2nd tier boy band, 98 Degrees. Back in my short-lived TRL days!
The Hardest Thing by 98 Degrees
I also went through a really big Aerosmith and Queen phase in college. I guess taking it back to my parents' roots again. {grin} I may have wet myself {damn babies destroying my bladder control} jumping up and down during our morning of music trivia on Bourbon Street when Fat Bottomed Girls came on.
Killer Queen by Queen
This one gets me and my sister going! We think it's about cocaine though?
I had several Aerosmith CDs, and it's hard for me to pick 1 song as my favorite.
All my CD covers
Remember all the great videos? Cryin', Crazy, Living on the Edge, Jaded...ah, memories!
Janie's Got a Gun is definitely up there though!
Another song that always makes me smile and think of Brent is:
Any Old Love Won't Do by George Strait
It was almost our wedding song, but Brent didn't like the opening line to the song {I've seen ladies look at me with want to in their eyes} - I guess he had a point!
So instead our first dance song was:
There's No Way by Alabama
If this doesn't get to you, you don't have a heart!
As a mom, I'm enjoying sharing a lot of songs from my childhood with my kids. They definitely know The Beatles, have been sung a million versions of Moonshadow, we play the Disney Pandora station...but I also wanted a song to make our own.
Baby Mine
I can't watch that scene in Dumbo without crying but man that song is the best!
So there you have it - some of the songs that define my life!
It is going to be hard to get this week going. While I had to work over Spring Break, it was still nice not having the hustle and bustle of getting ready and out the door for school. It was the perfect week to have off with the time change, and overall I'd say we really enjoyed ourselves! But let's see what the numbers have to say about the week... {grin}
It's Friday! This week has flown by and been completely nuts! ONE
Southern Peach Clothing
Two of my good friends, Lauren and Sarah, started a clothing company called Southern Peach Clothing!
Lauren and Sarah in their Southern Peach hats
They sell dresses, t-shirts, jewelry, and shirts for kids. I have already spent a pretty penny on their stuff and love it so much! Go check them out!
#TEXASGIRL, A Little Dirt Don't Hurt, and the CUUUUUTEST dress!
TWO
Motorcycle Boots
I really want a pair of motorcycle boots. Now not the ones that are covered in straps, buckles, and studs. Just a simple pair of flat boots for a casual outfit. I saw a girl in NOLA wearing my dream pair but alas I'm having trouble finding them in real life... Anyone have a really cute pair?
THREE
My Spirit Animal
I was cleaning out my email this week and found this picture my brother-in-law sent my sister and me probably 2 years ago. He said it was our spirit animal. I still laugh when I see this and agree with him.
FOUR
Spring Break
It has been Spring Break this week in our town, and it couldn't have come at a better time! With the spring time change, I am always a mess for a few days, so it's been so nice to be able to get some extra sleep. The kids needed it too! And it's been a lot of fun having some family adventures. {grin}
FIVE
Natural Calm Kids
A friend recommended this to me for the kids. It's a liquid multi-vitamin, but it's got extra magnesium in it to help with sleep issues {hello Drew} and hyperactivity issues {hello Trent}. I started the kids on it this week and have told them it's non-negotiable and have had little issue getting them to drink it {mixed with water and apple juice}. I'm hoping to see some improvements, but if nothing else, it is a really high quality vitamin, and it makes it easier for me to give them their daily dose of Omega-3, Vitamin D, and a probiotic! I'll let you know if we like it!
After our disastrous adventure at Zootopia, I was surprised when Brent suggested we go to the rodeo. Who is this man and what have you done with my husband? The kids were very excited {Drew kept calling it the radio and had no clue what we were doing, but Trent's enthusiasm was contagious}.
I wasn't happy about this! It's mid-March!
The first place we went - to pet the animals!
Trent was underwhelmed with the petting zoo, so Brent took him on this adventure.
We met up with some people we know!
These two melt me!
{Watching monkeys race on dogs. #onlyattherodeo} If she's not in a onesie, she's in a tutu. #thatgirl
Rides!
And somehow Trent convinced Brent to let them play a game to win a goldfish.
So now we are the proud owners of 2 goldfish, Gil {Trent} and Goldie {Drew}
We left the rodeo and had to go to PetSmart to get supplies - a bowl, food, decorations, water conditioner...let's see how long these guys last!
One of my March goals was to do some activities with the kids. Brent and I decided to take the kids to Zootopia. I was really excited because a) the movie looked cute, b) it would achieve my goal, and c) it would be Drew's first movie. Brent was tolerating the idea of going. {grin} Well, let's just say...this was a disaster!
She looks really excited, doesn't she?
I don't have unrealistic expectations for going to a movie with kids. Do I expect them to be totally quiet? No. Do I expect them to sit still? No. Is a bathroom break likely to happen? Yes. So they behaved about like I expected. Drew wandered around a little, Trent was super hyper, they were both chatting... What I didn't expect was for TRENT to get scared - to the point we all left. With Drew crying that she wasn't scared and she wanted to go back to 'o-topi'. Then both kids were crying in the car. Drew because she was mad we left, Trent because he was just full of emotion! So our drive home consisted of me sitting almost backwards holding both kids hands and consoling them. And Brent was just a little too smug since this went about just as he expected. #ugh #men BUT...I think we redeemed our March goal yesterday! Stay tuned...{grin}
