Movie Review: Birdman

Allison and I are starting off awards season movie viewing! Last year, we didn't quite get all the Best Picture Oscar nominees watched, so we started a little earlier this year based on online predictions.

First up - Birdman.

Plot: A washed up actor who once played an iconic superhero must overcome his ego and family trouble as he prepares to mount a Broadway play in a bid to reclaim his past glory.

Review: I don't even know where to begin. I despised every second of this movie. When I saw the preview for this a few months ago, I thought This looks like a piece of crap that I will hate that makes no sense but artsy people will love it. Yup, #nailedit. The cast should have guaranteed that it'd be awesome - Michael Keaton, Naomi Watts, Emma Stone, Edward Norton, Amy Ryan, Zach Galifianakis. Oh the camera work! Oh the irony! Oh the subtle point about redemption or some other bullsh*t nonsense! Whatever. The movie is dumb. If this is the bar for which the 2015 Oscar Best Picture movies will be based, it is going to be a LONG viewing season for my movie date and me. I cannot believe this won Best Picture at the Golden Globes. Like were the people who saw this and loved it high? I will say Michael Keaton was amazing. His performance was top notch. But the movie? TERRIBLE.

Quite possibly the worst Oscar nominee we've seen. Ever. In our history of watching movies. AP

I'm going to try to watch it this weekend.

Have you seen Boyhood? I'm curious what you'll think of that one.
