Let's Talk About...TV!

Y'all are probably confused by that title, but I'm actually watching some shows worth sharing. Who am I?!?

First up - 1923 [Paramount Plus]! Yellowstone is a show everyone I know is watching...but I just couldn't get into it. I did watch 1883 because I love Faith Hill and Tim McGraw. I enjoyed the show but found it slow. I was really interested in 1923 because hello Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren?! Yes, please! And this one DOES NOT disappoint! It is FANTASTIC, and I'm so excited there is going to be a second season. I have LOVED this!!

Next up...OF COURSE Ted Lasso [Apple TV]! Season 3 started this week, and you can bet Brent and I watched it. I didn't think the season premiere was the best, but I am so excited for this season. I have seen some interviews about how this is the 'conclusion for this story'. So is this a series finale season or what? That doesn't exactly sound like THE LAST SEASON?!?!

After watching the season premiere for Ted Lasso, Brent and I decided to try Shrinking [Apple TV]. Brent and I have watched 5 episodes, and it is really good! It's a comedy with a little bit of darkness, but it's witty and good. PLUS it's more Harrison Ford! Can't go wrong there.

Brent watched Only Murders in the Building [hulu] a few months ago and thought I would enjoy it, so we started it together. We're trying to get it finished up before season 3 starts - which is adding some major additional star power - I think it's going to be great!

I also watched Secrets of Playboy [hulu] and it was absolutely BANANAS. I feel so bad because I used to watch {and love} Girls Next Door, so to watch this and see how sick and twisted Hugh Hefner and the Playboy empire were...was very upsetting. This documentary is done so well and it's so good...but very hard to watch.

This last one...I'm 15 years late to the party on, but I am finally watching Friday Night Lights. What's funny is they filmed this in the Austin area and a lot of it was filmed in my hometown, where I was living at the time. They used our gym, football field, our coaches were extras, they used our school colors and mascot...and I never watched it! It is a fun high school show, and I'm definitely enjoying it!!

I know this isn't a huge list of shows I'm recommending, but it is for me! Anything fun you're watching I should add to my list?!

TV Binge-ing

You guys know I'm not a huge TV watcher. I really think I'm an 80-year-old lady in a 40-year-old body.  My favorite hobbies are reading and jazzercise, ha!

BUT being home A LOT MORE lately has meant I have picked up a few shows, and I thought I'd share. This isn't a long list by any means, but it's a lot for me!

Tiger King

You live under a rock if you haven't heard of Tiger King.
Brent and I watched this together, and we both liked it but didn't love it.
The first couple of episodes were really good, but it felt slow the second half.
I still find the whole concept insane/fascinating!

Ozark

What Brent and I have figured out is he likes to BINGE shows more than I do.
So we have discovered me watching shows he's already seen works well.
That way when I only want to watch an episode or two at a time, he doesn't care.
Enter Ozark.
He has watched all 3 seasons, and together we've watched 3 episodes so far.
It is so dark but VERY entertaining.

Schitt's Creek

This is one we tried to watch together 'new', but he didn't like it.
He probably watched 5 episodes and just didn't get into it.
But I was liking it and stuck with it and LOVED it.
This is definitely my favorite show I've seen in a long time, SO GOOD.
I agree it takes a bit to get into it, but stick with it and you won't regret it!

The Pacific

Brent got the idea to watch this over Memorial Day weekend.
He watched it when it was new {10 years ago ha} and thought I'd like it.
And he was right!
One of my grandfathers was in the Army and stationed in Guadalcanal,
and my other grandfather was in the Navy.
So this was VERY fascinating to know they were in the thick of this.
It was really well done, educational, heart-breaking, amazing.

Waco

Brent and I have started this but not finished it. I'd still like to though.
Having lived through the standoff and watching it on the news in school,
I was fascinated by this story.
I wonder if this is what started my fascination in cults?
I have read books and watched documentaries on David Koresh, Jim Jones, and Charles Manson. Hmmm....
One episode in, this is good!

Band of Brothers

Brent has watched this twice, so after we finished The Pacific, I was on my own.
Given it's almost 20 years old, I can't blame him.
This is so great! 20 years ago I couldn't appreciate war movies,
now I can and I am really enjoying this show!

Stranded: The Netflix Edition

I like Mix and Match Mama's Stranded topic for this week: What 3 Netflix series would you take on a desert island with you?

#1

I think this one is a no brainer. There are 17 seasons of good crime TV here people. That's almost 400 episodes! If I were stuck on an island, I'd really love to have a lot of choices. PLUS, Mariska Hargitay is one of my absolute faves, so she would be an amazing companion!

#2

I can't believe it's been over 20 years since Friends premiered and over 10 since it went off the air. i still laugh so much when Brent and I watch these in reruns. This would definitely take the edge off after a few too many SVU crimes!

#3

I'm going to cheat a little bit here because Downton Abbey isn't on Netflix, but it is on Amazon Prime, so I think this still counts. I have watched this whole series countless times and don't think I could ever get sick of it. This is probably the one I bully people into watching recommend people watch the most.

So what are the shows you'd want to bring with you?

Fall TV - What We'll Be Watching

Fall TV is here! Brent and I kept busy this summer binge watching Mad Men, finishing shows we missed after we moved, starting True Detective {we haven't finished it...still on the fence}. But now we have a whole new season of shows!

What We'll Watch Together:

Law & Order: SVU

Brent and I've been watching this together for years. He complains about the unbelievable story lines every week and makes fun of my irrational love of Mariska Hargitay, yet he keeps watching it with me. {grin}

Empire

This was Brent's new one last season, and I quickly got hooked. This show is FIERCE. My favorite character is {#shockingnotshocking} Cookie. The season premiere didn't disappoint with some bad-A activities by Papa Lyon.

Breaking Bad

While we patiently {or not} wait for the last 7 episodes of Mad Men, our next binge watching show is going to be Breaking Bad. Yes, we are years too late to this party, but we both want to watch it!

I have a list of other shows I want to convince Brent to watch with me.

Bloodline

I have heard Bloodline is awesome. And you guys know how I feel about Netflix shows!

Vikings

I watched the first episode and decided I wanted to convince Brent to watch this one with me. We'll get there I think...eventually!

Then I have a whole list of shows I haven't been able to convince Brent to watch.

Once Upon a Time

I have a love-indifference relationship with Once Upon a Time, but season 4 ended really strong, and I'm excited for season 5!

Downton Abbey

This show will probably go down in history as one of my all-time favorite shows. I asked Brent if he would watch the first 5 seasons with me before season 6 starts, but he turned me down. Boo. I am equal parts super excited for and dreading January - I don't want this to be the last season!

Game of Thrones

I am behind on this show, so I need to watch season 5. I've read the first 2 books and plan to get to both. I enjoy both a lot, but they are a commitment!

Grace & Frankie

I don't know when this will come back on Netflix, but I can't wait!

Modern Family

This is definitely one of the funniest shows on television! I love the dynamic between all the family members and love how each episode is funny and witty all at once.

Outlander

I don't think this will come back until the spring, but I can't wait to see one of my all-time favorite book series continue on the screen. To be fair, book 2 was my least favorite of all the books, so I'm curious how it will play out on screen.

Lastly I have a few I'm on the fence about. {And yes, I'm wondering where all this time will come from to watch everything!}

The Bastard Executioner

The creator of this show created Sons of Anarchy. That alone should speak volumes. Sons of Anarchy was one of my obsessions last year, but it was so terribly dark. I'm kind of scared of this show!

Grimm

I used to watch Grimm but found my interest waning...but now I'm kind of curious what has been happening, so I might pick it back up again...eventually!

So that's my very long, probably very unrealistic TV watching plan! What are you excited about? Anything else Brent and I should be watching?

Five on Friday

It's Friday!!! Man - Monday evening I couldn't even believe it was STILL Monday...and now it's Friday!!!

ONE

Parenthood I started watching this show probably a year ago on Netflix, got bored, got obsessed with Sons of Anarchy, and decided to start it again and am loving it - it really has gotten so good. I finally get why everyone seems to love it.

TWO

Cinderella Allison and I are going to see Cinderella this weekend, and I can't wait! If you haven't watched the trailer, you must be living under a rock. It just looks so cute, has some of my favorite actors {hello Downton Abbey and Game of Thrones}, and is going to be so fun!

THREE

Grandparents Day Today is Grandparents Day at the kids' school. I am strangely SO excited... Our parents have been to the kids' school a million times, but they've never toured the campus or seen inside the classrooms. I'm also going to be a tour guide!

FOUR

Chromecast Brent and I have had Chromecast for a LONG time, and I never used it. I finally started using it and am obsessed with it. I don't like to JUST watch TV. I like to work or blog or clean up {hahahaha}, but if I'm watching Netflix on my laptop, it's hard to do anything else. I am kicking myself for not using it sooner. If you don't know what you can do with Chromecast, you can stream anything from your laptop or iPad or phone or whatever onto your TV and keep using your device. SO FUN!

FIVE

Spring I always feel like until we get past early April, there's always a chance for a dip in the weather. But MAN it certainly feels like spring right now!

What I'm Digging... Five on Friday

1. My Eureka steam mop - I got a steam mop a few years ago but because we luckily had a cleaning lady, I didn't use it much {okay only once or twice}. Being in the apartment, I am doing all the cleaning myself, and I LOVE this mop. Something stuck on the floor? Just let the mop sit over it for a minute and the steam gets it loose. No chemicals? Yes please! Easy peasy!

2. I cannot wait - I ordered Drew and me matching pink Converse! I have literally wanted a pair of Converse since I was 8 and never had them. How freaking adorable is my little miss going to be?

3. Legend by Marie Lu - I am nothing if not a sucker for YA trilogies. I started this one last week and finished Wednesday night. I have now read 4 trilogies, and I'm going to rank them next week. #bookworm #nerd

4. This. Just this.

5. Empire - If you aren't watching this show, you are missing out on something incredible. Brent decided to check this out, and we both got hooked! Cookie Lyon {Taraji P. Henson} is FIERCE. She has the best lines {'Boo boo kitty, just 'cause I asked Jesus to forgive you, don't mean I do.' 'The streets ain't for everybody. That's why they made sidewalks.' 'God please do not withhold your blessings, even from hoes that hire skanks to spy on me.'

2015 SAG Awards Fashion Police...Best and Worst

After an overall blah fashion showing, we've come to the best and worst. Another blogger who does fashion titled her best 'The Best I Guess'. I haven't looked at her posts yet {I like to be unbiased, ha}, but that's about how I feel!

Worst Dressed Men

Adrian Brody
I like a tux that is a little bit unique. This is just too much. The pants are too tight, the fabric is too shiny, the jacket is weird...

Jesse Tyler Ferguson
See explanation above.

Best Dressed Men

Justin Theroux
I like the skinny tie, the fit is great, overall just great!

Lenny Kravitz
This is different without being too much. So handsome!

Joe Manganiello
Yum. Sofia is one lucky lady!

Worst Couple

Elspeth Keller and Reid Scott
This guy is on Veep. I didn't know. I know I'm all 'hug the bump' to the pregnant ladies...but this? Is the WRONG way to hug the bump!

Worst Dressed Ladies

Gabrielle Carteris
Allison and I couldn't figure out why she was there. She's the VP of the SAG.
But man she can't dress. See what I mean about inner side boob? And that shawl! And hair...

Joan Collins
The sleeves, the bow, the shoes...ugh.

Lara Pulver
I can't even say everything that is wrong with this. Let's just say: EVERYTHING.

Rosamund Pike
Aw Rosamund. You are seriously one of the most beautiful women I have ever seen. Why are you wearing a giant fluffy doily?

Best Dressed Ladies

Joanne Froggatt
This is just a black dress. It's hard to pick a basic black dress as a favorite, but Joanne nailed it. Inner boob that isn't showing too much {and therefore emphasizing that we ALL sag}, I love her hair and makeup, the cuff, the mermaid flair. Just very classy and pretty.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus
How does she keep getting prettier as she ages? Sometimes I think she dresses too young, but this is very pretty, fits great, and seems just right.

Sofia Vergara
She knows how to dress her body. Damn. Lucky Joe! {grin}

So who were your favorites of the night?
