The Bogg Bag Saga

I posted in last month's Currently post that I was coveting a Bogg bag. This is probably a silly post to write, but I had to share with everyone how the acquisition of said bag went down for me.

I couldn't wrap my brain around paying full price for a Bogg bag, but the more I wanted one, the MORE I WANTED ONE. I have several friends who bring their bag every week to the pool, and I was drooling with jealousy, BUT I was on the hunt to get one on sale...which is nearly impossible to find.

While we were in Arizona, I found a bag 50% off...that seemed to be from a legit site and a legit bag...until I got email correspondence in Chinese. Womp, womp. I still need to get onto my cc website and request a refund for that order, ha!

THEN I found a new bag through the Mercari website - for 1/3 off! I quickly ordered it...and then didn't hear anything for days from the seller. I was very nervous.

The picture on the Mercari website

About a week later, I got a big package from Dillard's and was really confused as to what it was. Because it wasn't a PEACH Bogg bag, it was a BLUSH Bogg bag, and the Mercari site still didn't show any updated shipping information.

The bag that arrived

Finally, the Mercari site updated...and I got a blush Bogg bag, ha. I didn't really care - but it was interesting that a different color was advertised and then took so long to update.

The last piece to this ridiculous story - I didn't even end up using my bag on our beach trip because my sister kept taking her bags with enough towels for everybody haha. But it has been fun to take to the pool for our last few trips of the summer! {grin}

Enchiladas: A Story

This story is an old one, but as it comes up often in my real life, it's one worth sharing!

We're going to take this back to August 2020 when I turned 40. Brent and I had our closest friends come over for dinner. Given we were still in the 'not really sure what Covid is' phase of life, we wanted to celebrate but didn't want to be stupid, so we decided dinner at our house would be a good idea. {It's so funny to think about this in hindsight because Texas still had almost zero cases at that point!}

We ordered dinner from my favorite local restaurant, Blue Corn Harvest, which is basically Tex-Mex with some flare. My favorite dish are their pork enchiladas so we ordered those and also beef enchiladas. As I was telling everyone what we ordered, our friend Dez {who grew up near Boston but her mom is a native Texan and she moved back to Tx in elementary school} questioned how I say 'enchilada'. The way I say it sounds more like 'an-chilada' but Dez said it more like 'in-chilada'. Brent's comment was that I've always said it wrong. I was SHOCKED and a debate ensued. Everyone else at our house was a native Texan and everyone else said 'in-chilada'. WHAT?!?!

Me and my girls

I figured this had to come from somewhere, so the next day I called my parents and had them each talk to me in a room separate from each other. I asked my dad 'If you were at a Mexican food restaurant, name some common menu items you might order.' [And yes, at first, my parents were very confused why I separated them and asked them such a random question, ha.] My dad's immediate response was...'In-chiladas'. Okay, my dad isn't the culprit. He passed the phone to my mom, where I repeated the question. Her response was 'An-chiladas'. Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner for where my pronunciation came from! I also called my sister who answered this question with 'in-chiladas'! We had a good laugh over us 3 apparently saying this word wrong forever and not having a clue. How funny is it also that everyone in my family immediately responded with the same food as 'things you would order as a Mexican restaurant'??

Fast forward a few weeks later and I was watching an episode of Schitt's Creek. The 'fold in the cheese' episode which became a hilarious video in the 'how are we going to go back to school' days of that summer. The episode starts with the Rose family talking about dinner.

And David says this...

Totally hilarious that I apparently pronounce the word the same way a Canadian does. I immediately had to text the girls with that clip! I hope y'all find this story as funny as I did because we still talk about this 18 months later!

And just in case you never saw the 'fold in the cheese' video...I found it!

How happy is everyone that it isn't 2020 anymore, even if this was a funny memory from then!

Mother's Day Views from Paige

Parenting toddlers/preschoolers is such a wild ride, and Paige is no exception. Generally, she is such a happy kid with such a fun personality. She is definitely finding her place as an independent person, but she is really such a fun kid. However, twice over Mother's Day weekend, she really put me in my place.

First, on Friday when I picked the kids up from school, Paige climbed into the car just grinning from ear-to-ear {which is nothing new} and handed me a card she made for me for Mother's Day. She was SO proud of the card she made and as she gave it to me, she said 'Happy Valentine's Day!'. HA! She knew something special was going on, just not really what!

Sunday, on Mother's Day, we were getting ready to go to a birthday party. I was getting dressed and Paige made the following comment:

'You have big, big, big, big, big fat breasts.

And a fat tummy.

And fat legs.

And fat ankles.

And a fat butt.

And fat arms.'

THANKS, PAIGE! I love you too! Are there any body parts you forgot to mention you'd like to comment on?

She's lucky she's cute!

I'm really glad I don't rely on this child for my self-esteem!

Spiraling

Anyone struggling with the implications of rising COVID cases? My mind is a hot mess as I wonder about school, work, economy, illness, upcoming holidays, everything. Part of me wants to blog about it to get it out, and part of me wants to bottle it up and shove it back down.

So let's look at some memes that made me laugh recently, shall we? {grin}

Any of these really speaking to you right now? Please tell me I'm not alone with the spiraling thoughts!

Kidisms

One of my favorite aspects of blogging is preserving memories I know I would otherwise forget. One of our neighbors was telling us some funny things her 4-year-old son had said recently, and I basically begged her to write them down. I know there are more I've forgotten over time, but these are some really funny ones from the last few months. These are also very Paige-heavy, but I think that's just because of the age she is compared to Drew and Trent.

Paige was in the bathtub and I was working near her. She had a little toy in the tub she was pretending was a cup. She kept trying to get me to drink from the cup, and I kept refusing She finally asked 'Do you want to try my vodka?' That child knows what I like!

We are working on Paige staying in her bed all night. So far it's been very unsuccessful, ha, but one night she told me 'I'm going to sleep in my bed tonight. Well help me pick a night. Vote in the comments below.' Too much YouTube perhaps?

My mom gave Drew a sign for her room that says 'No boys allowed.' On the way home, Drew announced the boys she WOULD allow in her room. It was every single boy she knew!

A few weeks ago, I got irrationally angry about Brent getting fast food. Brent encouraged me to take a breather and I drove around for a little while chilling out. A few nights later, Paige and I were talking about me 'leaving' when Paige was snuggling in our bed [see the story above about us being unsuccessful in our attempts to keep her in her bed] and Brent got up to watch tv in the living room and Paige whispered 'Now Daddy left'.

Paige was in the bathtub another time with one Barbie talking to another: What is that on your face? Oh, a booger.

One of the first days of school when Paige was crying on the way to school, Trent told her 'Look, I don't want to go to school either, but we have to.' That cracked me up because Trent has NEVER wanted to go to school ha!

Paige at pickup after her first day at school: 'Oh hi sackie! I'm home from work.' [Sackie can't go to school with her and waits patiently in the car all day.]

After about a week of school, Paige told me at pick-up 'I FINALLY had a good day!'

We had our friends over for a lazy Sunday and were eating pizza and Paige was telling a story about her boyfriend calling her. She told us 'I had to breakup with him because he kept saying hate and shut up.' So funny! But then she topped it all off by having a 'conversation' with this boyfriend and she lowered her voice to have him say 'shut up hate' and she hung-up on him! That girl is something else! We all DIED laughing.

I love these 3 goobers!

Meme Monday

I think we all need a laugh today. I have cried every day for at least the last week about school. I had some girlfriend time on Saturday and had MAJOR waterworks. I feel like most of my friends with school-age kids are not happy about something related to school right now. So let's laugh, shall we?

I screenshot this from an IG story because it was too funny.
I even showed it to my own MIL, so hilarious.

I always have good intentions when the day starts...

People in Texas understand this one.
THE BEST GAS STATION IN THE WORLD.

DEAD

I sent this to my boss, ha.

Isn't this so true?

Here's to a better week for everyone!

That Time I Was Topless at a Work Dinner

A few months ago, when I talked about skincare, and specifically deodorant, I alluded to a funny story involving how sweaty I used to get, and I decided to tell this story today. In advance, you're welcome. {grin}

I used to sweat REALLY badly. Like I had to be careful about what colors I wore because it would show SO BAD in clothes. I had to wear super light or super dark colors only if I didn't want to risk showing armpit stains.

Well, this story is a time I broke my own rule and wore a hot pink shirt...to a work dinner...as an intern...

Through the accounting program I was in during college, I did an internship with a large accounting firm January through March of my 4th year of school {so winter 2002}. Not the one I ended up working for full-time after college, and still work for now, but a competitor, so also a global company. I was one of 10 interns, and one of the activities we did was a Progressive Dinner. With this dinner, we did a round-robin at different partners' houses - so appetizers at one house, main course at another, etc.

As a typical 21-year-old trying to make/maintain a good impression, driving to areas I was unfamiliar with, making sure I was on-time, looking nice/appropriate...all that...resulted in me being extremely nervous. Add nervousness to an already propensity for sweating and a hot pink button-down shirt, and your end result was by the time we arrived at the first house, I already had giant armpit sweat rings in my shirt.

I WAS MORTIFIED. So my solution was that I tried to keep my wool peacoat on and claimed to be 'cold'. But that started to get awkward the longer I was there, and I honestly started to get really hot so being in a wool peacoat wasn't a viable option anymore.

I just finally gave up and went up to the partner's wife, showed her my shirt, and asked if she had a blow dryer. She was so sweet and took pity on me and took me upstairs to her master bathroom, showed me her blow dryer, and left the room. I had to take my shirt off to be able to dry it, so there I stood - in a partner's bathroom wearing a bra, pencil skirt, and heels.

This is what nightmares are made of.

I spent the next 5-10 minutes praying no one would walk in there. Can you imagine how that would have looked? A 21-year-old intern standing in a partner's bathroom in a bra and skirt blow-drying her shirt?

Thankfully no one walked in on me and my shirt dried out and I survived the rest of the night. Doesn't that sound like a fun evening?

And can anyone blame me for using toxic, aluminum-filled Certain Dri for years? Ha!

Now you play along - got a funny or embarrassing story worth sharing today??

Corona Memes

I really believe that Corona memes might be some of my favorite memes ever. I crack up constantly at all the posts I see online. I wanted to share some of my favorites. There are way too many, I could literally share 100, but I limited myself {although you might get to the end and question what I mean since I am still sharing a lot}.

This KILLED me.

Ahhh...to be in quarantine without children...

Yup.

Why are they so hungry ALL the time???

In AUGUST...sob

Please? Pretty please?

Or rather 'fold my laundry'

I had a conversation with Drew about her not talking AT ALL
in her 1-on-1 chat with her teacher, so weird!

The SCREAMING in our house is insane.
Drew took a nap yesterday at 9:30 am. For 3 hours.
Have you seen any great memes lately? Have a great weekend...of nothing! {grin}

You Win Some, You Lose Some

Sometimes you're doing good and sometimes...not so much. I feel like the last few weeks have been 1 step ahead, 1 step back, 1 step sideways, all over the place. But we've had a few things to celebrate...but also a few things to lament!

Some of the good...
- I've lost 2 pounds so far this month! Slowly working my way toward my goal, yay!
Some of the bad...
- I ate my weight in lasagna last night, oops!
Some of the good...
- We've managed to keep the kids' diets pretty decent. [minus some extra snacks we ordered from Amazon]
Some of the bad...
- I think the kids are only brushing their teeth once a day. At least they are brushing them? And they are definitely not showering consistently!

Some of the good...
- We are spending a lot more time outside.
Some of the bad...
- But the kids are definitely getting extra screen time. It isn't INSANE, but I am trying to relieve my Mom Guilt over screen time right now...

Some of the good...
- I have started drinking my coffee with NO sweetener! I don't love it, but it's manageable!
Some of the bad...
- I REALLY want a Chai...and might be making that happen today! Sugar, I just can't completely quit you!

Some of the good...
- I have been so impressed at how quickly Drew picked up bike riding once we finally tackled it. Now we need to tackle shoe tying. Coronavirus is slowing us down enough to tackle all these things a 7-year-old should already know, ha.
Some of the bad...
- We can't go very far because her bike is too small, and it is super hard pedaling a bike that is too small. I think we're going to go get an old one my parents have though!

Some of the good...
- I love all the extra family time - I feel like we are making a lot of new habits that I hope stick and making good memories. Drew and Trent have been so much better with each other, and we're all doing a lot more together.
Some of the bad...
- With all this togetherness, there is definitely a lot more fighting, ha!

What are some of the good and bad things happening for you!?!?

Social Distancing Distraction

Just a little humor and a look at life in these crazy times!

Brent and a co-worker go periodically to an awesome liquor store.
He didn't check the pantry before he went and got more Tower Vodka...
but I think NOW we'll survive the next few weeks {months?}.

In hindsight, maybe we should have canceled book club...
but so happy I got to see the ladies.
It's always a great time, even if the book is terrible {sorry, Jen}!

We have to laugh a little, right?

Thanks Nana...or not, ha!

Buying extra food made me need to clean the pantry.
I forgot to take a Before pic, but this is about halfway.

After! Looks beautiful!
And Brent said 'It finally looks like how a pantry should look.'
{meaning he thinks I never buy enough food ha}

TRUTH

Sibling love...we are loving the time off for Spring Break...so far.

Drew's work at horseback riding Sunday was poop scooping.
She started to cry haha but rallied when I helped her.

Hanging a picture I bought 18 months ago, yay!

And one last joke for us all...
although I was a little carb-crazy over the weekend, I'm dedicated to my plan.
Googling all the workout from home plans I can find!
