Making of Gone with the Wind

Gone with the Wind is my all-time favorite book. I read it in high school and was just blown away. I immediately began collecting memorabilia and have loved all the cool stories related to the filming of the movie. It took YEARS to go through the process of making the movie, and it took 2 years to cast Scarlett O'Hara. Filming had already begun before Vivian Leigh joined the cast, and she was a finalist for the role within 48 hours of the producer meeting her. Pretty crazy!

The Harry Ransom Center in Austin had a pretty amazing display all about the process of filming the movie - from buying the movie rights from Margaret Mitchell {they had telegrams and letters on display...pretty cool} to film footage of the 4 finalists who fought for the role of Scarlett and Vivian Leigh winning an Oscar. There were costumes on display and set art work. Overall it was everything a GWTW lover could want to see!

Me and Janet {my fabulous MIL}

Some of the set art work - beautiful isn't it?

It wouldn't be GWTW without some gorgeous dresses on display!

I used to do a lot with Janet and after having kids our time together has dwindled. Usually the kids are there or she's watching the kids for us, so it was so nice to spend some one-on-one time together with a chai and Scarlett!
