Movie Review: The Favourite

Allison and I were able to fit in 1 more Oscar film, so if I get my act together this week with the 2 movies I can watch online {BlacKkKlansman and Roma}, I'll have watched 7 of the 8 Best Picture nominees. I really thought I stood no chance this year, so I'm pretty pleased with this result!

Plot: In early 18th century England, a frail Queen Anne occupies the throne and her close friend, Lady Sarah, governs the country in her stead. When a new servant, Abigail, arrives, her charm endears her to Sarah.

Review: Man, I don't even know what to say about this film! First of all, Allison and I didn't realize this was mostly historically accurate - we didn't know Queen Anne really existed - I even commented that I guessed it was a made-up story, ha. So take my review with that in mind. I was definitely fascinated by the dynamic between all these characters and thought the dialogue was very witty and fun. There were also lots of scenes that were over-the-top on purpose that made us laugh. But it was also really bizarre. I'm sure it's considered really cutting edge - there were funky camera angles {numerous scenes had a panoramic view}, weird interactions, just some real goofiness that I wasn't digging. But the acting was also phenomenal, and I thought the 3 main ladies did an amazing job. So overall did I love it? No.  Did I enjoy it? Yes. {grin}

This sounds like an interesting film. Do you think it deserves to win Best Picture??? I'm guessing, no, but maybe there was something about it that set it apart?

This just sounds weird. Def skipping it. We saw Bohemian Rhapsody (finally) last night and it lived up to all of my very high expectations. Loved it. Appropriately timed too because oliver has this total obsession with Queen and requests “we will w(r)ock you” about 50 times a day
