All the Deets About #3

I am so excited to finally be able to write this post {and for several reasons}. First, there were times {many, many times} I never thought I'd convince Brent for another baby. Second, I'm just happy to finally be able to talk about our newest baby! And fair warning, this post is super long...but what else would you expect from me?

The Story!

Brent's been pretty vocal in the past about not wanting a 3rd baby, but then there would be times where he would say 'probably' or that he could see it happening in the future - and hello, we built a 4 bedroom house on purpose. And then he'd flip to saying {like on my birthday} that I needed to just accept that we were done. But finally on our vacation to New Orleans, he said he was 100% onboard {and no, he wasn't drunk...at that point at least}. 3 weeks later...we were pregnant! Of course I didn't know for a few weeks after that, but I really thought there was a distinct possibility I was, so it was really hard waiting to take a test. I actually didn't make it to a late period and tested a few days early.

April 4 {at about 4:15 in the morning}

I tested before I left for a work meeting in Houston that started at 8:30, so I got up at 4:00. When I saw the 2 lines, I debated whether to wake Brent up or tell him later, but I knew I couldn't keep it in until I was home that night. Unfortunately, Brent's first thoughts when I tell him I'm pregnant - which always seems to involve me waking him up - are always about money, and he can't ever go back to sleep. I am always super excited, and he's always stressed trying to figure out how we'll afford another baby. {grin} Plus, he really didn't think it would happen so quickly after NOLA. Sorry honey!

On my drive, I called my OBGYN to schedule my first appointment {a long 4.5 weeks away} and my primary care doctor to ask if I should do anything differently due to knowing I have MTHFR mutations. To say I had split focus in my meeting in Houston was an understatement, but I survived and made it home. It took Brent another day or 2 to process, but by the middle of the week he was excited too.

For my first appointment, Brent had to be in San Antonio for work, so my mom went with me. According to a normal cycle, I should have been 8 weeks, 1 day. According to MY cycle, I thought I was 8 weeks, 4 days. The baby measured 9 weeks - given the birth weights of Trent {8 pounds, 9 ounces} and Drew {9 pounds}, this was not surprising. But since there was more than 5 days difference between a normal cycle and baby's measurements, my due date officially was bumped up to coincide with 9 weeks. I was so happy and relieved to see that little nugget on the screen and see the little heart beating. I think my mom really enjoyed getting to be there too. Since my belly was already so big {see below for photographic proof}, we were happy and relieved to confirm there was just 1 baby in there!

What is my due date? I am due December 8 and will be 15 weeks on Thursday. Knowing my history, I am thinking December 11 - 15, ha. Trent will be 7 1/2 and Drew will be almost 4 when Smoochie joins our family. To say we'll have a busy holiday season will be an understatement, but I am very excited and love the age gap we'll have.

When did we start telling people? I was nervous to tell family we were pregnant because I knew they'd think I either tricked Brent or bullied him into a baby given how vocal he'd been in the past {at least publicly} about being done. So it took me about a week to start telling family, but everyone was super excited. I also told a few close friends right away because I can't ever keep my mouth shut! We didn't tell the kids until after we had our first OB appointment.

What do the kids think? I can sum that up in one word: EXCITED! They pat my belly, kiss my belly, fight over who gets to lay on my belly, talk to Smoochie. They both can't wait! We told them after our first appointment. Trent wants a little brother, and Drew wants a little sister. I told them I can guarantee the baby will be one of those two!

How do I feel? It's interesting how this pregnancy has been a mix of Trent's and Drew's. Pretty much from about 5-6 weeks onward I was SO nauseous - like all day. I would dry heave a lot but only threw up a couple of times which is more similar to Trent {although the nausea was more intense which is more like Drew's}. But food aversions have been really strong and more similar to Drew {like thinking a chai sounds gross}. One of the reasons I tested early was because of some...ahem...growth that had already started and hasn't stopped! My body definitely remembers being pregnant, so I sometimes already feel like I'm in my 3rd trimester. Of course being older, having 2 crazy active kids, and {unfortunately} being heavier don't help me feel young and sprightly!

Gender? We are not finding out! Since we found out with both Trent and Drew and have all the clothes from them, I thought it would be fun to have a surprise this time. Brent would gladly find out, but he's going along with me. At my latest appointment, the baby's heart rate was 160. Drew's first 2 were 170 {14 weeks} and 157 {16 weeks}, and Trent's were always in the 140s or low 150s. Any guesses?

The Bump Large and in charge. At 8 weeks I easily looked more like 16 weeks with Drew and more like 20+ with Trent. Luckily, even though it's continued to grow, I don't think it's growing at THAT fast of a rate. I had a co-worker see me on Friday for the first time in over a year {she didn't know I was pregnant} and as soon as I stated the obvious and said how far along I was, she said 'You are HUGE for 14 weeks!' I know she didn't mean it in a bad way and she has 2 kids, so I just said 'I know!'

My 14 week bump might be the smallest?
It was definitely a fluke because the next day...you guessed it...huge!

I can't think of anything else to share but will happily answer any questions {if it's possible anyone could have any}!

Congratulations! So excited for your family! I'm thinking boy! My sister just had her third and didn't find out the gender! It was so fun for her! (Not so much for me because I was dying to buy her things!) She ended up having a third girl!

Congratulations!! I haven't been reading much lately (any blogs) but when I do a quick scan of my reader I always open to see if you have a pregnancy announcement (I found you on a blog link up on names and I've wanted to know baby 3s name since then)

That sounds a little creepy...I like your book recommendations and I just recently started a job in public accounting so I like other things about you too :)

So I just started reading your blog and again, congrats on baby #3! Also, I was reading your "about me" and was excited to see another person from Big 4! I worked at Deloitte for a few years and met my husband there (he's now moved onto law).
