Westcave Preserve

Thursday I got to go on Trent's second school field trip. We went to the Westcave Preserve, and it was amazing. Anyone in the Austin area would really enjoy it.

It was a long ride to get there {over an hour}, but Brent was with his best friend, TJ, and he brought his latest Diary of a Wimpy Kid book.

Book worm! This kid melts my heart.

We had a bit of a wait as 2 of the cars in our caravan went a different route and arrived about 20 minutes later. I led the kids through a game of Simon Says where they did a lot of jumping jacks, pushups, and situps. Trent's teacher offered me a job {ha}, so if I ever lose my job, it sounds like I've got a backup plan!

Listening to our tour guide give instructions.

We walked a half mine into a canyon and stopped a few times for Paul to teach us about the area and even give us some Texas trivia. Even the parents learned a few things! Our final destination was called The Grotto, an area where 500,000 years of erosion created a little pool and cave feature. Words can't describe how beautiful it was!

The Grotto!

Water has dripped constantly from here since records started being kept!

My little guy learning all about nature and sitting with some ladies.

A water moccasin! EEK!

This tree is 350 years old and has a life expectancy of about 1,000 years!

Inside The Grotto

After The Grotto, we went inside the cave feature. We saw a lot of stalactites and stalagmites. There was also a section of the ceiling that was called 'the floating mummy' because it looked like a mummy hanging from the ceiling!

This is a column - where stalactites and stalagmites meet!

We had a great time, and I feel very blessed to be able to go on field trips with my guy!

How fun! But as soon as the snake was spotted I would have been out of there! Reminded me of the once a year Innerspace Caverns field trip..ha!

What a cool field trip! We don't have stuff like that here in Orange County. Well, we have some cool tide pools at the beach and stuff. But it's totally different.
