Advice PLEASE!

Trent (and I) need some advice. He is having trouble staying asleep once put down in his crib for naps and nighttime. It's gotten so rough that he's back in his swaddle so he at least gets good sleep at night. Any moms out there have advice for me? What happens you ask? I get him to fall asleep (which is sometimes a battle in itself) and go to lay him in his crib. He either startles with his eyes POPPING open...followed by a wail OR he sleeps for just 30 minutes (his naps used to be about an hour with 1 longer nap) which results in an overly tired baby by the end of the day. I'm really working to have him napping and sleeping in the same place as he becomes more aware of his surroundings, but I don't know if it's better to have him get good sleep (meaning he might nap on our bed while I watch Ellen - sidebar - I LOVE Ellen) or sleep in his crib?!? HELP!!

I am a big fan of letting them put themselves to sleep in their crib...the talking/cooing that they do to put themselves to sleep, is the best to eavesdrop on :) BUT when I just couldn't put them down or they fell asleep while feeding, this is what worked for all three of mine: Hold him really close, walk to the crib halfway bouncing, and just when you're about to softly lay him down, just barely have his head, back and hiney touching the mattress..and then let him go. Don't try to do it easy, that wakes him up. He will startle at first, but then he relaxes and goes to sleep much faster. Also make sure you have a fan/humidifier/rain CD etc. playing-- some kind of noise in his room should help him sleep better & longer. If he is having any congestion issues, you could elevate the head end of his mattress. Something else to consider, Trent may be a belly or side sleeper. Good luck!
